Overview

As Cornell Cooperative Extension Assistant Director for Community and Economic Vitality and Executive Director of the Community and Regional Development Institute (CaRDI), Rod Howe 1) provides leadership and support for integrating research and extension into programs which address community & economic vitality issues; 2) fosters collaborative programming among faculty and off-campus Extension educators; and 3) establishes effective working relationships with local, state, regional and national agencies and organizations.

Research Focus

Responsibilities include fostering the integration of research and extension for the benefit of NYS communities; articulating the research base for community and economic development programming; engaging faculty in multidisciplinary research questions and issues; and fostering campus/Association collaborations for targeted grant opportunities. Research supports training and policy initiatives.

Outreach and Extension Focus

As Cornell Cooperative Extension Assistant Director for Community and Economic Vitality and Executive Director of the Community and Regional Development Institute (CaRDI) Rod provides leadership and support for integrating research and extension into programs which address community & economic vitality issues; fosters collaborative programming among faculty and off-campus Extension educators; and establishes effective working relationships with local, state, regional and national agencies and organizations. Rod is very involved in CaRDI’s training programs that have a focus on local officials and regional initiatives. Key areas include regional economic development, capacity building, community and energy, and agricultural economic development.

Teaching Focus

Occasionally provide oversight to students involved in community and economic development related projects
